An Evening in Paris | 1st Birthday Party

You might say that this magnificent 1st Birthday party, from the summer of 2016, took a village to make happen…

For real: a Crepes Stand, a fresh frites station, an Eiffel Tower photo booth, a Mini-Monets Art Tent, a trackless train, a bounce house, a face painter and balloon twister made this party the most magical Paper and Pastiche party yet!

Enjoy the photos taken by Christina Marie Photography and Au Revoir!

Invitations, program, decor and signage were designed by Patty Fanella of PAPERandPASTICHE

The Mini-Monets Art Tent was managed by Bottle and Bottega of La Grange, Illinois.

The Crepes Tent was managed by Gotta B Crepes of Evanston, Illinois. They were fantastic! The Frites Station was managed by PAPERandPASTICHE staff. The rest of the catering was provided by a combination of the Willowbrook Whole Foods and the Wheaton Mariano’s.

Face Painter, Margi, and Balloon Twister, Michelle, made a great team! They are both very difficult to book so I recommend contacting them as early as possible.

Samuel Tiger’s Neighborhood

I think that since I get to help other people with their parties, I tend to be more conservative when planning my own. Lately, I’ve been keeping them very small, keeping the decorations to a minimum and just raid my craft bins rather than the shelves at the store – not even to save money, just to waste less!

This was definitely the case for my son, Sam’s, 1st birthday. We invited a few friends to join us for a family day of fun at the Dupage Children’s Museum in Naperville, Illinois, and I even made my own Daniel Tiger cake from scratch (which was a new -and very stressful- experience for me)!

My baby boy adores Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood which makes me exuberantly happy considering my own childhood love for Mr. Roger’s… I made a couple of small “Daniel” circles for the red paper fans I already had in my supplies and some scraps of fabric became a decorative swag for the highchair.

So here are a few pictures from Sam’s cute little party at the Museum. Not pictured, the disco ball in the party room, the magical bubble machine, and the parents’ Prince and Michael Jackson dance party.

Rustic Ravenswood Wedding

This Spring, I had the pleasure of styling the wedding of Jamie Mattocks and David Perry – a beautiful Chicago couple, laid back and ridiculously fun – absolutely my favorite kind of people.

Their wedding ceremony and reception took place at Artango Bistro (the Ravenswood location, not to be confused with their new restaurant in Lincoln Square) which provided the perfect backdrop for the rustic decor for which Jamie was looking.

To pop off the warm neutral tones of the space, we chose Plum and Pistachio as our Spring palette. In addition, we brought in even more warm lights and vintage Edison bulbs to enhance the best thing about Artango – the warmly lit, romantic ambiance.

Star Wars Valentines

Star Wars Valentines - Free Printable 2015

Last year my son was obsessed with Jaws and this year it’s Star Wars. Since I was born in 1978, you can imagine how delighted I am…

I borrowed the super cool character sketches from Alecia Dawn Photography, who has been kind enough to share her designs on Pinterest since 2012. But of course, I had to make them my own to please my picky child…slightly different wording, only four of his favorite “guys” and enough space for a Starburst. 🙂

Feel free to borrow the image below for your own personal use…and if you’re a grown-up who wants to hand these out, Yoda best. Happy Love Day!

Brit Pop Wedding

Nathan and Amanda's Chicago Wedding - Vintage Eclectic Brit Pop Travel Old Oak Tap - Pastiche Events

Saturday, September 6th, I had the pleasure of styling the Chicago wedding of Amanda Czernecki and Nathan Suh. If you live in Chicago, you have probably heard Amanda’s voice on the radio or have seen her pretty mug on TV, as one of our own Chicago traffic reporters. As a talented musician, it is no surprise that Nathan finally met Amanda at a Brit-Pop music night in 2011. Apparently, the two frequented the same music events and establishments for years but never crossed paths until Parklife at Lucky Number Grill. Their love of music brought them together and this was clear on their wedding day.

Even more, their love of travel played a part. The two fell in love in Chicago, became engaged near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and visited London for their honeymoon. How very proper, considering the music that brought them together…

I loved that my friends were so willing to make their day their own and cast aside the typical traditions and expectations. To begin, I designed their invitations and told their love story via a Chicago L Map.

Traffic, travel, the city they love, and music were all prominent players from the get-go.Chicago L Map Wedding Invitations with Love Story and Vintage Postcard Response by PAPERandPASTICHE

The beautiful photos taken by Photographer, Amy Aiello will tell the rest of their wedding story…stacks of vintage books, mobs of romantic candles, warm, deep-red flowers, postcard love notes and a Union Jack cake, made this particular Chicago wedding one-of-a-kind for a truly unique couple.

I am available to hire for custom invitation design, wedding signage, favors, homemade cupcakes, dessert tables and unique day-of ceremony and reception styling. Amy Aiello, whom I have been fortunate to have worked with before, is an extremely talented, Emmy-Award winning, professional photographer and I can not promote her services enough…she has the best eye in the city.

Family Tree Cupcakes

My friends ask me to make the cutest things…

I made this cupcake tree for an Indiana Family Reunion a few weeks ago. I made two dozen chocolate cupcakes from scratch and created the tree shape.

I am much better with paper than frosting or fondant.
